Shibir alleges that whatever a student organization does becomes its policy

On Wednesday afternoon, the panel supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir, which is contesting the DUCSU elections, complained to the ‘Unified Students’ Alliance’. This complaint was made at a press conference in front of the administrative building of Dhaka University. The VP candidate of this panel, Abu Sadiq, and GS candidate SM Farhad spoke at the press conference. At that time, other candidates of the panel were present there. SM Farhad complained, ‘Whatever a student organization does becomes the policy. In view of which, the university is giving instructions no matter how late it is. We are really worried about these issues. We will request the Election Commission to announce the policy in advance specifically. It cannot be changed repeatedly. Otherwise, the revelation may continue to come even on the day of the election verdict. If the Election Commission continues to have influence over a particular group, it will be very difficult for the students.’

This GS candidate from the Shibir panel, mentioning that he had put up banners after talking to the Election Commission, further said that banners and festoons were put up in different places on the campus yesterday Tuesday to introduce their panel. Later, the university administration removed them. It was not clearly stated anywhere in the code of conduct that these could not be put up. Even then, they put them up after informing the Election Commission. But at the end of the day, at around 11 pm, the university administration suddenly said that this was violating the code of conduct. Looking at the situation, it seems as if a revelation was being sent down to the university administration from somewhere.

SM Farhad further said that initially the administration had said that campaigning could not be carried out before August 26. But when a party held a greeting program after prayers last Friday, the administration said that votes could not be sought; but greetings could be exchanged. When a student organization wants, the university issues a notification in the same way.

Stating that there is a conspiracy to sabotage the election, the GS candidate said that these activities are raising suspicion among the candidates. It seems like a conspiracy to sabotage the entire election.

SM Farhad alleged that some of their panel banners were torn yesterday and the pictures of the candidates were defaced. He said that no visible action has been taken so far despite complaints. Despite the footage of the incident, no action has been taken. This is regrettable and a clear violation of the election code of conduct.

Abu Sadiq, the VP candidate of this panel, said, “We want to see the teachers who are in the Election Commission as teachers. But if they take the side of a student organization with political ideology, then it will be taken against the students.”

Meanwhile, regarding these allegations, Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the Chief Returning Officer of DUCSU and Hall Parliament elections, told Prothom Alo, “We are not working for anyone. All decisions are being taken within the code of conduct. If someone brings a complaint, we take it into account and resolve it.”
